Dear P.S. 481 Families:
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We are looking forward to working with you in many ways, in which, together, we will aspire for academic success for all students.
Our core belief is that parents are an essential part of a child's success in school. We recognize the important role families play in student achievement and school improvement; therefore, it is critical that we foster a meaningful partnership between families and the school to provide a clear path to success for our students.
Each and every one of us has an important role as parents, teachers, administrator, and/or support staff. Together, we must encourage our children to become active and lifelong learners who are able to adapt to our rapidly changing society. Our collaborative efforts are a powerful influence on our children’s achievement in school. Through a close and collaborative partnership with all voices being heard and considered, I am confident that we can make our school a better learning community where our students will learn, think critically, be creative and grow.
In support of our commitment to working together, we ask that you please take the time to review the information in the parent hand book with your child, so that everyone is aware of the expectations of being a part of The STEAM Bridge School family.
With communication in mind, I promote an open-door policy and transparency. My door is always open and I welcome your input as we strive to build a stronger community and strengthen the educational opportunities for our children. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you. Therefore, please feel free to stop by or call to discuss ideas, suggestions, and/or concerns.
The STEAM Bridge School
The mission of The STEAM Bridge School is to develop the next generation of S.T.E.A.M. learners who focus on the 4Cs: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.
In our vision, we are committed to expanding the level of S.T.E.A.M. knowledge through rigorous and engaging curriculum that embeds critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity:
Critical Thinking-Today’s citizens must be active critical thinkers. Therefore, we are preparing our students to effectively develop the skills needed to analyze, evaluate and interpret information that will engage them in high quality thinking. Through daily problem solving, daily synthesizing of information and daily exploration students will develop a learning experience that will generate 21st century scholars.
Communication-Having significant communication skills is critical and valuable in the workplace and in our lives. We are committed to engaging all students in effective communication skills that involves articulating ideas through speaking and writing across curriculum. Through the communication process our students will develop confidence in expressing their ideas.
Collaboration-We emphasize the importance of collaboration to our students. By allowing our students to collaborate daily we create and foster a holistic effort to gain and generate more knowledge that will allow our students success in a global society. Our students will regularly assume shared responsibilities and contribute to accomplishing common goals in meaningful and respectful ways.
Creativity-In today’s world, creativity is what drives success. We are fully aware that successful individuals are those who have developed creative skills and use those skills to make the world we live in a better place. For that reason, we push our students to think creatively, express their creativity and work creatively with others.
Think Creatively- Allowing our students to brainstorm a wide range of ideas will maximize our students ability to think creatively.
Express Creativity- Allowing our students to act on their creative ideas will allow them to show their creative side.
Work Creatively with Others- Allowing our students to work with each other on existing and new ideas provides opportunities for input and feedback from one another that will allow new innovative ways of working with each other.
