Music
Our music program begins in kindergarten, where students learn to play the piano. Throughout their school years, students have numerous opportunities to showcase their new skills and talents through class performances, recitals, concerts, and even off-campus performances.
The Steam Bridge School Music Program at P.S. 481 has become an integral part of every student’s education. We’ve meticulously crafted this program, continuously expanding it with new opportunities and experiences each year. Every student at P.S. 481 has access to a wide range of musical opportunities, including:
- Piano
- Recorder
- Ukulele
- Advanced choir
- Modern Band
- Digital music
We also have a music “big/little” program where 5th-grade students mentor kindergarten students. These special bonds strengthen our school community and foster a sense of belonging where everyone knows everyone.
Physical Education
At The STEAM Bridge School, our Physical Education program promotes healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits. Through engaging activities and movement-based learning, students develop the skills and confidence needed to stay active, make healthy choices, and work collaboratively with others.
In the early grades, students build foundational motor skills such as skipping, hopping, galloping, balancing, throwing, catching, and coordination. They participate in a variety of games and activities that strengthen listening, communication, cooperation, and sportsmanship while improving stamina and overall fitness.
As students progress through the upper grades, they continue to develop strength, endurance, and physical fitness through more advanced activities and fitness challenges. Students learn about muscle groups, healthy habits, and the importance of physical activity in maintaining overall well-being. They also participate in a variety of sports and game-based activities, learning the rules, strategies, and skills needed to be successful in sports such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, and more.
Our goal is to help every student develop a positive relationship with physical activity, build confidence, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and leave The STEAM Bridge School with the knowledge and skills needed to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
STEAM
In our STEAM classroom, students engage in hands-on, real-world learning experiences that inspire them to think like scientists, engineers, designers, and problem-solvers. Through the engineering design process, students learn to ask questions, develop solutions, test ideas, and improve their designs through reflection and perseverance.
Students participate in exciting challenges and projects such as the Marshmallow Tower Challenge, Ultimate Playground Build Challenge, Popsicle Stick Bridge Challenge, coding activities, and learning experiences in our hydroponics classroom. These opportunities encourage creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation while helping students develop the skills needed to design, build, code, plant, and grow.
Our goal is to empower students to become curious thinkers, confident creators, and future-ready problem-solvers who are prepared to tackle challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
