The kindergarten application is now open! If you live in New York City and have a child born in 2021, you can apply to kindergarten by the January 23, 2026 deadline!
Please note that kindergarten admissions is not first come, first served: there is no advantage to applying early, and all applications received by the deadline are treated equally based on admissions priorities.
You can apply in one of three ways:
- Online with MySchools.nyc—Recommended!

- Already have an account? No need to create a new one, you can use the same account. If you don’t see your child on the dashboard, you can add them by selecting “Add a Child”.

- Don’t have an account? Create your account today. You’ll use MySchools to search for elementary schools, apply to kindergarten, and get your child’s offer letter. Watch these video tutorials to learn how to create your MySchools account and how to apply.
- By phone at 718-935-2009. Call us Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm.
- Contact a Family Welcome Center. Learn how at schools.nyc.gov/FWC.
Translation and interpretation services are available through each application pathway.
As a reminder, you can use this application to apply to all types of kindergarten programs, including Kindergarten, Kindergarten Gifted & Talented (G&T), Dual Language, and District 24 STEM programs. You can list as many choices as you are interested in attending, including schools outside of your zone or district. Zoned students have the highest admissions priority to attend their zoned school.
Be sure to list the programs in true preference order, even if the programs are located at the same school. For example, if you wish to attend the G&T program at a school more than the other kindergarten program(s), list it higher on the application. A child’s admissions priority does not change no matter which order you place choices on the application.
You can learn more about schools of interest by going to an open house or school tour. Some schools will post open houses and tour dates on the MySchools’ Events Calendar. You can also visit a school’s website or contact them directly to find out more.
